This was my 11th 5k in the year of 2014. I got there at about 8:30 in the morning. I came with my bother , Ethan and my dad , Scott. There was giant American flag hanging from two big fire trucks. It was really cold in the morning so I had 2 layers of clothes on. We went to the big garage in the fire house and got my bib number and race bag. I was the only one running in our family that day. I did a few jog and a couple of sprints up and down the parking lot. I stretched and then my dad and Ethan went off to the .4 mark where he would see me first. First at the start line we did the national anthem then the pledge of allegiance. Then someone got up on the fire truck and went over the rules. Then the race started. When it started, I was in the front of the pack of people. I had on girl in front of me when we started running. She looked a little older than me. Maybe about 12 or 13. I had a hat and earmuffs on. When I saw my dad my hat was slipping. I took off it off and threw it to my dad. The last thing I needed was for my earmuffs to fall of. And guess what happened. My earmuffs fell off! The next time I saw my dad was at mile 1.7! So I had to hold on to my earmuffs until mile 1.7. But, on the brighter side of things, it was getting warmer and I was glad I had taken off my hat and earmuffs. I still had gloves on but you know how your hands are really cold. I didn't want to throw them down and my hands be freezing at the end. The girl was still in front of me. That was the only thing I was worried about now. When I saw my dad, he was by a big fire truck and my brother was giving out high-fives to runners ahead of me. I gave him my earmuffs and kept running. The girl was about 10 steps ahead of me now. I finally caught up to her about mile 2. We talked a little bit and said we were going to finish this race together. Well, that didn't happen. I'm getting ahead of myself. Let me tell it right, I saw my dad about mile 2.8 and he said to get ahead of her. We were still running together. And we stayed together until she said she wanted to slow down. I said that I was not going to slow down. Then I think she got a little mad at me and sprinted ahead of me. I went along with it and sprinted as fast as I could because I wanted to be over all. I felt so fast that it felt like my feet weren't touching the ground at all. I really didn't want to be second. I saw her finish. But I wasn't going to stop. After all. I didn't know if I could stop! I was still going for my best time. I finished and didn't feel good. I all most had to... well you know what. They took off my chip and I walk around for a second. When my brother and dad came, I told them what happened and we went to look at the awards. What I was going to get was a pretty cool piece of wood shaped like Indiana with stuff carved on it. Over all got a flag in a wood frame which was cool too. That race was fun. Really, really fun!!
